Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Recognizes Serving at the Crossroads

As residents of La Entrada were making their way to the Manos Amigas clinic on a hot 95º degree day in late January, four members of the Executive Board of Serving at the Harrisburg RotundaCrossroads (SATC) traveled through snow squalls and blustery winds to be the guests of legislators’ in Harrisburg, the state capitol of Pennsylvania.  The Board of Directors received accolades from legislators for their work with the medical clinic in Honduras, which after a little more than two years has treated over 16,500 patients.

A proclamation sponsored by Senators Andy Dinniman and Dominic Pileggi of Chester County, honored Serving at the Crossroads for its accomplishments with the Manos Amigas medical clinic in Honduras, its adherence to the highest standards of service and its efforts to improve the human condition.  In his remarks, Senator Dinniman said “this organization’s record is a model of service that is worthy of emulation.”  The entire body of the Senate rose to their feet to applaud the efforts of the Board, seated in the richly appointed chamber, in recognition of their leadership in bringing medicines and medical care to a part of the world that is impoverished and socially underserved.

SATC Board Members First, in a private ceremony in her chambers, and then before the full Senate, the Lieutenant Governor, Catherine Baker Knoll, who also is the President of the Senate, made a second presentation acknowledging SATC’s contributions in extending the principles of community service on an international level.  In commending the organization, she extended her thanks for SATC’s commitment to making a difference in the lives of individuals an said, “This outstanding organization is a model representative of the ideals of community service that Pennsylvania holds most dear.”  Several of the partners in the Medical Network that SATC helped to establish in Honduras have affiliations or collegial relationships with institutions or host
groups in Pennsylvania.

SATC Board MembersThe Board received both commendations on behalf of Serving at the Crossroads and its many supporters and benefactors.  Copies of the Proclamation and the Acknowledgements will be sent to Manos Amigas for display when their new clinic is completed.  Mike Tysowsky, Chairman of the Board of SATC, remarked “it is humbling to receive an award for services that any caring person would gladly offer to another upon seeing that they lacked the means to help themselves.  These services are only a harbinger of many additional programs that are yet to be offered to the community.”
