All Politics Are Local - La Entrada is no exception!
Honduras is a young Democracy – slightly less than 20 years now. Fall has come and gone in the US and similar to what we experienced at home, the month of November was election time. So too in Honduras, when political speeches are made on TV and from roof-top mounted speakers on passing cars, the electorate goes to the polls to make choices. We were told that generally voters will not re-elect incumbent office holders, blaming them for much of the community’s ills and unfulfilled promises.
SATC had an excellent relationship with the incumbent Mayor of La Entrada, Marcio Vega Pinto. He was one of a few university educated leaders and from our many discussions with him, we could see that he was a visionary. He was a champion for SATC in the community, assisting with our needs and removing obstacles for the Phase I clinic. Obviously he must also have been the people’s champion because voters broke with precedent and re-elected him to the mayor’s office. SATC congratulates mayor Pinto and we look forward to four more years of working together in serving the local needs of the community with quality medical and dental care.

Clinic Update
- Clinic nears 25,000 mark in treating patients during first 3 years of serving people in La Entrada
- Well drilling completed on new clinic site
- Eagle Scout project collected more than $15,000 worth of over-the-counter medications
- Audiometer donated, which will speed up examinations, enabling patients to qualify for hearing aids
- ASIDE, the Association for Ecological and Social Economic Development, signed cooperative agreement with Manos Amigas to supply food, bedding and medical supplies
- Finland's Project Norte partnered with Manos Amigas by providing funds for well construction, waste water disposal and environmental preservation of new clinic site
- First micro-enterprise development project receives grant to test market "high-end" fabric products sewn in Honduras for sale in US with portion of profits to support the clinic
