World Bank – A potential source of funding for developing nations with a record of accomplishment
Putting money in the bank is generally regarded as one way to make money grow through the accumulation of interest. The World Bank is no exception but this is a depository for the wealthier nations of the world to invest their money here for use by other countries, particularly young or developing nations and Third-World countries, who may borrow from this institution at reduced rates of interest. Frequently, if the needs of the developing nation coincide with the interests of the depositing country(s) and specific objectives are met, the interest and/or the loan may be forgiven. Emerging nations can draw upon these funds. Honduras is one of those nations with an established relationship at this Bank.
Earlier this year Serving at the Crossroads (SATC) and Manos Amigas (MA), paid a call to the World Bank to introduce themselves and to enable this institution to learn about their existing programs and those they are about to implement for the people of La Entrada. Equipped with a three-year track record, ample accomplishments and support from their municipality and local citizenry, MA would appear to be a good candidate to attract the interest of this bank as a vehicle for future investment in the Copan Region of the country. Although the doors have only just opened, future dialog must continue if there is any hope to draw upon this bank for resources in support of clinic healthcare and other related auxiliary initiatives. The uniqueness and breadth of SATC’s strategic approach to date and support for programs that elevate women and families, like Threads of Hope, an experiment in micro-enterprise development linked with improvements in health, continuing education, public health and future health clinic outreach projects have attracted interest that will be pursued with the Bank.
